Gas Safety Week: Every Check Counts

By JR | Blog

Stay Gas Safe this Gas Safety Week

This week (9th-15th September) is Gas Safety Week 2024.

The annual awareness campaign from the Gas Safe Register is upon us again this week (9th-15th September).

This year’s theme is ‘Checking – Every Check Counts’, emphasising the importance of regular gas safety checks.

Prioritise gas safety

As you know, it’s important to prioritise gas safety in your home and have your gas appliances checked at least annually.

Gas appliances that have not been properly maintained can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Carbon monoxide is known as the ‘silent killer’ because you can’t see, smell or taste it.

Therefore, it is important to have your gas appliances checked by an engineer who is listed on the Gas Safe Register, as all our heating engineers are.

Regular heating checks

That’s why we recommend having an annual heating service, to:

– Keep your boiler in tip-top condition
– Check it’s all running efficiently
– Minimise risk of breakdown
– If there are any issues, we can fix them before they become serious
– Some manufacturers require it as part of their warranty.

Neil Stevenson, Stevenson’s Director of Services, said: “It’s our job to make sure that people’s gas appliances are operating safely and efficiently. In some instances, people do not know the signs and symptoms of faulty gas appliances and carbon monoxide poisoning.

“Because of this, we are supporting Gas Safety Week to remind the public of the seriousness of unsafe gas appliances, the important of checking and how they can keep themselves and their families safe.”

When did you last have your heating and gas appliances serviced?
